PRESS-RELEASE Ust-Kamenogorsk October 29 is the date when ULBA Metallurgical Plant JSC celebrates its 65th Anniversary. October 29, 1949 was the starting point when they released their first product as Thorium Oxalate. Created in the frames of Atomic Project of the USSR Ulba Metallurgical Plant became one of the pioneers in nuclear industry of the country. One by one they started-up productions of Beryllium, Uranium and Tantalum. Best graduates from the famous highe institutes were sent to work for Ulba Metallurgical Plant. Thousands of Ulba employees were developed, improved the production and mastered new products. Today Ulba Metallurgical Plant is a unique enterprise with its products well known all over the world. In its jubilee speech addressed to Ulba Metallurgical Plant employees Mr. Nurlan Kapparov, the Chairman of the NAC Kazatomprom Board, noted its role in making important decisions a republican nuclear industry makes: – Working as a part of Kazatomprom, now the plant is encouraged to play an important role in building a company possessing maximum number of nuclear fuel cycle links. Ulba Metallurgical Plant acts as a reliable representative of Kazakhstan in the international markets of high-tech products of Uranium, Beryllium and Tantalum. All that activity requires great knowledge and experience, deep competence appropriate for ULBA employees. In his appeal to the plant’s veterans and employees Mr. Yuriy Shakhvorostov, Board Chairman noted: – Ulba’s strong position and its ability to resist any difficulties – properties appropriate to the veterans, help today’s employees in making the way in the new economical environment. The plant is continuously working on the long-terms projects and keeping high quality of products and expanding its range. All productions meet the jubilee date with the performed production tasks. Uranium production increased its volumes of the processed chemical concentrates of natural Uranium. Fuel pellets were produced and shipped to Chinese customers. It is a continuous business to process Uranium containing materials supplied by the Japanese companies. Beryllium production significantly increased Aluminum-Beryllium master alloy output. For the nearest future they intend starting to supply a new kind of products as Copper-Beryllium alloy as granules to Chinese market. Tantalum production made a supply of Tantalum powder of metallurgical grade to US customers. A procedure was established for the production of Tantalum and Niobium strip modified with Yttrium and commercial supplies were made to foreign partners. A procedure was developed and tested for the production of high pure Niobium of superconducting grade. Successful participation of Tantalum employees in the Republican competition Innovator.KZ became a good gift to the plant’s Jubilee. Plant’s innovators ranked No. 2 in the nomination «Best innovative solution of the year». Before that in 2011 Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC won that competition in the nomination «Best enterprise innovation support system». It is the fifth year where a voluntary medical insurance program had been in effect at the plant. In 2013 over a hundred plant’s employees took the chance of purchasing apartments within a program of supporting young employees. Every summer Ulba’ people have rest at Sibiny and Borok – plant’s recreation camps and the kids can relax themselves at a comfortable kids’ camp. Ulba Metallurgical Plant’s policy of a socially responsible business was highly appreciated with an awardee title in the nomination “Best socially responsible enterprise” in the Republican competition «Paryz-2011». Same year Ulba Plant was acknowledged as «Best recruiting company» and «Best HR-project» in the competition «Сенiм-2011». Every year before regular anniversary of the plant they extend gratitude to those who contributed its effective and creative efforts to common mission. This year they added Plant’s Book of Honor with the names of Mr. Kaidar Nurgaliyev, Repair Engineer for Uranium Production and Mr. Orazaly Zhetenov, the operator for Tantalum Production. Title “Veteran of the Plant” was awarded to 20 employees of the plant. 10 employees were awarded with the Diplomas of Honor and 57 employees were commemorated. In addition all plant’s employees were rewarded. For Jubilee date Ulba Metallurgical Plant prepared a set of celebration events as laying flowers to the monuments of V. Potanin, the legendary Director of the plant and E. Slavskiy, the former Minister of Engineering and to the memorial of V. Konovalov. ULBA palace will host a formal dinner by Mr. Yu. Shakhvorostov, Board Chairman with near abroad and the plant’s veterans. The celebration will continue and end with a concert at ULBA palace to host popular singers and dancers of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk and the Plant.
